Raynaud's
Raynaud’s phenomenon is a condition that affects the small blood vessels, most commonly in the fingers and toes. It causes the blood vessels to narrow temporarily, usually in response to cold temperatures or changes in temperature.
During an episode, the toes may change colour as the blood flow is reduced. They may become white or pale, then blue or purple, and finally red as blood flow returns. Some people may also experience numbness, tingling, discomfort or a feeling of pins and needles.
What can trigger Raynaud’s?
Episodes can be triggered by:
-
Cold temperatures
-
Sudden changes in temperature
-
Cold water
-
Stress or emotional changes
-
Handling cold objects
The severity and frequency of symptoms can vary from person to person.
