Head Preference in Babies

Baby

Understanding Head Preference

Many babies prefer to turn their head more easily to one side. This may be due to birth position, tightness in the neck or simply habit. Over time it can contribute to feeding challenges, unsettled behaviour or flattening on one side of the head. this can often also be called Toricollis.

How Osteopathy supports

Gentle osteopathic treatment can support babies with head preference by:

  • Reducing tension in the neck and upper back

  • Improving comfort when turning both ways

  • Supporting easier feeding positions

  • Helping babies settle more comfortably

Our Approach

Your osteopath will:

  • Take a full birth and feeding history

  • Assess your baby’s neck movement and comfort

  • Use gentle, calming techniques

  • Offer positioning and tummy time advice

When to seek additional support

If your baby has a fever, reduced feeding or appears unwell, please contact your GP or health visitor.

All our osteopaths are qualified and registered with The General Osteopathic Council after completing a 4 year degree in osteopathy.

Every osteopath has their own unique style so the way one osteopath practises will differ from clinic to clinic and practitioner to practitioner. We pride ourselves in being dedicated to finding the right treatment style for your body.
