Understanding Sciatica

Sciatica refers to pain caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve. It can cause sharp, shooting or burning pain down the leg, often with tingling or numbness. Pain can be experiences in the buttocks, back of the lower leg or calf.

  • Passive stretching To improve flexibility, reduce tension, and support healthy movement patterns.

  • Taping or strapping To support joints or soft tissues during recovery or sport‑specific activity.

  • Medical acupuncture (if appropriate) Fine needles used to reduce pain, calm muscle spasm, and support healing.

  • Biomechanical assessment Looking at how you move, run, or load your body to identify contributing factors.

  • Rehabilitation exercises Simple, targeted exercises to build strength, stability, and resilience.

When to seek medical advice 

Seek urgent care if you experience numbness in the saddle area, loss of bladder or bowel control, or severe unrelenting pain.
