Hello, I'm Shona

I first qualified with a degree in Health Promotion after studying for 4 years in Ireland I then went on to study a degree in Podiatry for a further 3 years in London.

After qualifying I started my career in London working in University College London Hospital where I specialised in Diabetes. In 2016 I took on my current role as the Lead Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist for Bedford Hospital in which I oversee all the diabetes foot care for both inpatients and outpatients, I also joined the orchard clinic at a similar time.

What made you want to be a podiatrist?

I thoroughly enjoy providing interventions/ treatment to people which helps relieve pain and improve quality of life for some patients. I also love to chat which this jobs allows me to do in abundance!

What strengths or skill sets do you have as a podiatrist?

Since qualifying my career has allowed me to train as a non-medical independent prescriber as well as specialise in advance wound care, diabetes and vascular assessment of the lower limb.

What do you enjoy outside of life as a podiatrist?

Outside of work I have two young boys that keep me very busy. I love to travel and the second I have returned home from one holiday I am researching and booking my next.
